England Face An Uphill Battle To Reach The T20 World Cup Semi Finals After Australia Posted A Formidable Total Of 173 5 In Their Group 1 Match In Bridgetown

England left chasing steep target after Australia's big hitting

England face an uphill battle to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals after Australia posted a formidable total of 173-5 in their Group 1 match in Bridgetown.

Defending champions England, who must win to keep their hopes of reaching the last four alive, were set a target of 196 to win after a blistering innings from Australia opener David Warner (89 off 56 balls).

Warner's knock, which included eight fours and four sixes, laid the foundation for Australia's big total, with captain Aaron Finch (39 off 29 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (32 off 23 balls) also making significant contributions.

England's bowlers struggled to contain Australia's batsmen, with only Sam Curran (2-23) and Adil Rashid (2-28) taking multiple wickets.

In reply, England lost Jason Roy (1) and Phil Salt (10) early on, leaving them 2-15. Jonny Bairstow (29) and Liam Livingstone (22) rebuilt the innings somewhat, but both fell to Mitchell Starc (2-25) within the space of three overs.

England are now 5-137 after 16 overs, with Ben Stokes (25) and Moeen Ali (9) at the crease. They will need to score at a run rate of more than 10 an over if they are to reach their target.
